Most buildings fall into one of four categories, and the right system depends on how residents want to answer the door, what wiring is already in the walls, and how much the property is willing to invest.
Video intercoms
Video intercoms are the most common upgrade we install in NYC. Residents see the visitor on an indoor monitor or their phone, talk to them, and release the door. They add a layer of security that audio alone can't provide.

Replacing an Old or Discontinued Intercom
Here's something most NYC property managers eventually learn the hard way: intercom systems have a shelf life. Manufacturers stop making parts. Software stops getting updates. Repairs get more expensive and less reliable until one day the system simply can't be fixed.
That's the point where most of our clients call us. Before recommending anything, we evaluate what's already in the building — the entry panel, apartment stations, wiring, door-release hardware, and network needs. That tells us what can stay and what has to go.
Your existing wiring may still be useful
Many older NYC buildings already have intercom wiring running from the front door to every apartment. If that wiring is in good condition and compatible with the new system or a retrofit solution, we can often reuse some or all of it. Fewer new cable runs means fewer holes in walls, fewer visits to individual apartments, and a faster, cleaner installation.
We test the existing wiring before making any promises. If it's reusable, we'll tell you. If it isn't, we'll explain why and plan the new runs properly.

Most current video intercom platforms let residents answer visitor calls and unlock the entrance from a smartphone app — whether they're upstairs or across town. Features vary by manufacturer, so we ask what your building actually needs before recommending a platform. No paying for licensing nobody will use.
If your building already has fobs, keypads, or mobile credentials, or plans to add them, we check whether the new intercom can work alongside that system. The goal is one coordinated entry setup, not two systems that don't talk to each other.
