Who ButterflyMX Is Right For
Rental buildings with regular turnover. A tenant leaves, the managing agent removes them from the dashboard; a new tenant arrives, they're added in a minute. No fobs to collect, no handsets to replace. For a 60-unit rental in Williamsburg or Astoria with a dozen move-outs a year, this alone justifies the system.
New construction and gut renovations. When there's no legacy wiring to reuse, an app-based system avoids running cable to every apartment. ButterflyMX is standard in most new residential buildings going up in Long Island City, Downtown Brooklyn, and Greenpoint.
Buildings where the board wants the least disruption. The entire installation happens at the entrance and in the electrical closet. Nobody needs to enter an apartment. For boards that have been putting off an intercom replacement because of the disruption, this is the answer.

What a ButterflyMX Installation Involves
Entrance panel. The ButterflyMX video intercom — a touchscreen panel with a camera, surface- or flush-mounted at the front entrance. Additional panels at side, service, or garage doors if the building needs them.
Network and power. The panel needs an internet connection and power at the entrance. We run the network drop from the building's router or a dedicated line, install the power, and confirm signal strength at the door.
Door release. We connect the panel to the door strike or maglock, install or verify the power supply, and test release at every controlled entrance. As a licensed locksmith, we handle the strike and the door hardware ourselves — no second contractor.
Directory and dashboard setup. We load the resident directory, configure the managing agent's dashboard, and set up delivery passes, visitor PINs, and any schedules the building wants.
Resident onboarding. We provide the building notice and app instructions, and help residents get set up at handoff so the switchover doesn't generate a week of calls to the super.
Timeline. Most ButterflyMX installations are one to two days, regardless of unit count — because the unit count doesn't change the work.
