Aiphone Intercom Installer NYC
Walk into the lobby of almost any NYC office, medical practice, school, or apartment building built or renovated between 1990 and 2015 and there's a good chance the intercom is an Aiphone. It's the brand that got specified when the priority was a system that would still be working in two decades — and most of them are.
That's still the reason to choose it. Aiphone runs on the building's own hardware. No cloud account, no app subscription, no per-unit fee, no platform that might not exist in ten years. A resident or receptionist picks up a handset or looks at a monitor, sees or hears the visitor, and releases the door. It's the right choice for buildings and businesses that want dependable entry and don't want to manage software.
Impera Security Systems installs new Aiphone systems, repairs existing ones, and replaces the old ones that have finally reached the end — across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, whether we installed the original or not.

Who Aiphone Is Right For
Commercial entrances and offices. Reception desks, medical and dental practices, law offices, schools, and small commercial buildings that need a reliable audio or video entry system at the door with a master station at the desk. This is Aiphone's home ground.
Buildings that don't want a subscription. Co-ops and small landlords who want to pay once and own the system. No annual platform fee, no app licensing, no dependency on a cloud service.
Buildings with an existing Aiphone system. If your building already has Aiphone, upgrading within the brand often means reusing the wiring and some hardware. A GT-series system, for example, can go from audio to video without a rewire.
Multi-tenant residential that wants simplicity. Handsets or monitors in the apartments, a panel at the door, and nothing else to manage. Aiphone's GT series covers buildings from a few units to several hundred.
Where it's not the best fit: buildings that want app-based answering and remote directory management as core features — that's ButterflyMX or Swiftlane territory. Aiphone's IX series does offer app and IP features, but if the app is the point, the cloud platforms are built around it.
Aiphone Systems We Install
GT Series — Aiphone's multi-tenant residential system. Entrance panel with directory, handsets or video monitors in each unit, and support for several hundred apartments. Available in audio-only or video. The most common Aiphone system in NYC apartment buildings.
JO and JP Series — video intercoms for single-family homes, brownstones, and small buildings. Door station plus one or more indoor monitors, with the JO offering a mobile app option.
IX Series — Aiphone's IP-based platform for offices, schools, healthcare, and larger commercial properties. Network-connected door stations and master stations, integration with access control and VoIP phone systems, and app support.
LEF and other commercial audio systems — simple, durable audio intercoms for staff entrances, loading doors, and internal communication in commercial buildings.
Aiphone Repair and Replacement
A large share of our Aiphone work is on systems installed ten, twenty, or thirty years ago. Common calls:
Repair. Dead handsets, entrance panels that won't call, door release that clicks but doesn't open, hum and static on the line, one apartment out while the rest work, failed power supplies. Most of these are single-component fixes, and Aiphone's parts availability is better than almost any other brand — handsets and panels for older systems are still made.
Upgrade within Aiphone. Moving a GT system from audio to video, adding a second entrance, or replacing a discontinued panel with a current one while keeping the apartment stations and wiring.
Replacement. When a very old system — a 1980s LEF or an early GT — has failed wiring or is beyond parts, we evaluate whether a new Aiphone system can reuse the runs, or whether a Comelit 2-wire or app-based system makes more sense. We'll tell you honestly.
What an Aiphone Installation Involves
Entrance panel. GT, JO, or IX door station at the main entrance — audio or video — with additional stations at side or service doors as needed.
Indoor stations. Handsets or video monitors in each apartment, or a master station at a reception desk. Installed where the old station was when replacing an existing system.
Wiring. GT systems run on their own wiring, which can often be reused from a previous Aiphone or compatible system. IX systems run on the network. We test existing runs before quoting.
Door release and power. Panel connected to the door strike, power supply installed, release tested at every entrance. As a licensed locksmith, we handle the door hardware in-house.
Timeline. A commercial entrance or small building is typically one day. Multi-tenant GT installations are phased by floor.
Aiphone vs. the Alternatives
Aiphone vs. Comelit. Both are hardware-based with no subscription. Comelit's 2-wire video system reuses prewar intercom wiring and puts a video monitor in every unit — the stronger choice for a residential retrofit. Aiphone is simpler, has a longer track record in commercial settings, and its GT series is the safer bet where a building wants audio handsets rather than video monitors.
Aiphone vs. ButterflyMX. Opposite philosophies. ButterflyMX is app-only, cloud-managed, subscription-based, nothing in apartments. Aiphone is hardware-based, owned outright, with stations in every unit. Rentals with high turnover lean ButterflyMX; co-ops, commercial buildings, and owners who want no recurring cost lean Aiphone.
Aiphone vs. 2N. For commercial IP intercom, Aiphone's IX series and 2N compete directly. 2N has deeper third-party integration; Aiphone IX is often simpler to deploy and has strong VoIP phone-system integration for offices.
Aiphone Installation Cost in NYC
A single-entrance commercial Aiphone system with a master station typically runs $1,500–$3,500 installed. A brownstone or small building with a JO video system, $1,800–$3,500. For multi-tenant GT systems, budget roughly $200–$400 per unit plus the entrance panel — audio at the lower end, video at the upper.
Repair is billed as a service call: we explain the rate before scheduling and quote any parts before replacing them.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
It's still a good choice for exactly what it's built for: reliable, owned, subscription-free entry. The GT and IX series are current products with app and IP options. What Aiphone isn't is a cloud platform — if remote directory management from a laptop is the priority, an app-based system fits better.
-
Yes. Most of the Aiphone systems we work on were installed by other companies years ago.
-
Often. GT systems can go from audio to video, panels can be replaced with current models, and entrances can be added — usually keeping the existing wiring and apartment stations.
-
No. Aiphone systems run on your own hardware.
-
The JO series and IX series support mobile apps. The GT series is station-based, with app options on newer video models. If the app is essential, tell us — it changes which series we'd recommend.
-
Twenty years is common. Parts for older systems are still available, which is why repair is usually practical.
