Intercom Repair Manhattan
Lobby panel dead? Residents on the 9th floor can't buzz in deliveries? Impera repairs audio, video and app-based intercoms across Manhattan, from prewar co-ops on the Upper West Side to walk-ups in the East Village and office buildings in Midtown.
We find the actual cause (a failed amplifier, a broken riser, a door release or a network fault), repair it, and test every station before we leave. We work with supers and managing agents, and we service systems installed by other companies.

What Breaks in Manhattan Buildings, and How We Fix It
Prewar co-ops on the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Washington Heights and Inwood. Large elevator buildings often run an intercom installed decades ago, with a central amplifier, a doorman or lobby station, and wiring up the risers. When a whole line of apartments goes quiet, the cause is usually a riser connection or one amplifier channel, not 15 broken stations. We repair it without entering every apartment.
Walk-ups and tenements in the East Village, Lower East Side, Harlem and Hell's Kitchen. Five- and six-story buildings with older audio systems and wiring spliced through many renovations. Typical calls: the buzzer sounds but the door won't open, one floor can't hear the street, or a vandalized entry panel. We trace faults floor by floor and replace damaged panels with vandal-resistant ones.
High-rises and new condos in Midtown, the Financial District, Hudson Yards and Battery Park City. IP and cloud intercoms (ButterflyMX, 2N, Akuvox and others) fail differently: panels drop off the network, residents stop getting calls on their phones, or the directory falls out of sync with the building's management software. Many of these we fix remotely.
Townhouses in the West Village, Chelsea and the Upper East Side. Compact systems, often custom or high-end like Siedle. We repair or replace stations and door releases while protecting original doors and frames.
Offices and loft buildings in SoHo, Tribeca, Chelsea and Midtown. Multiple tenants per floor, a shared lobby, and freight entrances. We repair tenant stations, re-program directories after move-ins and move-outs, and fix door releases on busy commercial entrances.
Working in Manhattan Buildings
Manhattan buildings have rules, and we work within them. We send a certificate of insurance before the visit, schedule around service elevator hours and building access windows, and coordinate with the super or managing agent. After the repair, we send a short written report of what we found and fixed, ready to forward to the board.

Repair or Replace?
We repair first whenever it makes sense. When parts for an older system are no longer made, or the same failure keeps coming back, we'll put the options in writing for the board, including systems that reuse existing wiring so no apartment needs new cable. A full replacement for the building owner can qualify as a capital improvement, which makes it exempt from New York sales tax.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Most calls within 1–2 business days, and we prioritize entrances that won't lock or unlock.
-
Yes. Tell us the building's requirements and we'll send the COI before the visit.
-
Usually not. A whole line going silent typically means a riser connection or an amplifier channel, which is a repair.
-
Yes. We service intercom systems regardless of who originally installed them.
-
Yes. We coordinate service visits with building management and schedule repairs around service elevator windows and co-op or condo access rules common in Manhattan buildings.
-
Replacement may make more sense when equipment is discontinued, parts are unavailable, failures are recurring, or repair costs are no longer practical. We’ll recommend repair when it makes sense and replacement when it doesn’t.
